Scranton State School for the Deaf Heard Loud and Clear at Capitol

Students, staff, parents, friends and legislators packed the rotunda in support of House Bill 1318.  The Bill imposes a moratorium on the closure of Scranton State School for the Deaf (SSSD) to allow a legislative committee to study the logistics and costs and report the findings to the General Assembly.  Gov. Rendell has announced funding for SSSD would be eliminated and the school would be closing by June 30, 2009.

Rep. William Kortz II (D-38) tells the crowd that abandoning 125 kids with special needs is not the way to balance a budget.

SSSD kids perform "Waiting for the World to Change".

Please help deaf children and their families keep their school -- and help your AFSCME brothers and sisters keep their jobs!
