“Behaving Badly” raises $2,700 for charity at Women’s Conference
AFSCME members gathered in Hershey, PA, for the 2024 Council 13 Women’s Conference under the theme of “Women Behaving Badly.”
Every Council 13 Women’s Conference features a silent auction full of items and gift baskets created and donated by local unions, which raises funds to donate to a charitable organization. This year, the Council 13 Women’s Committee chose to benefit Caitlin’s Smiles, which donates arts and crafts supplies to children in hospitals. Conference goers raised over $2,700 for the charity!
Conference participants heard remarks from AFSCME International Director of Organizing and Field Services and Council 13 Administrator Mike Sukal, as well as Caitlin’s Smiles founder Cheryl Hornung.
During the conference, attendees discussed the challenges that the union faces, laid the groundwork to internally organize their workplaces, and took part in a variety of union-building workshops.
