PRESS RELEASE: AFSCME members endorse DePasquale for AG, McClelland for Treasurer
Harrisburg, PA (May 23, 2024) – Union members on AFSCME Council 13’s Statewide Steering Committee unanimously endorsed Eugene DePasquale for Attorney General and Erin McClelland for State Treasurer of Pennsylvania.
Committee members heard remarks from both candidates virtually on May 22, 2024.
“I loved working with AFSCME members as Auditor General. All the successful audits we completed during that time – AFSCME members along with myself were all part of that team,” DePasquale said during his meeting with members.
“I want to continue that partnership as your Attorney General.”
The committee also heard remarks from the Democratic nominee for State Treasurer Erin McClelland.
“I really am passionate about this job because of the deregulation of public pensions and attacks on them,” McClelland said to the committee before also speaking on the issue of school vouchers, which Council 13 stands firmly against.
“I am aggressively against school vouchers. If vouchers are passed, it is the Treasurer that writes the voucher, and I can assure you that if that goes through, we’re going to court and we’re going to fight it on constitutional grounds, and I’ll write the voucher when the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania tells me I have no choice.”
Following these endorsements, AFSCME members are urging their fellow citizens to get out the vote up and down the ballot in this year’s general election.
