Pennsylvania Delegates Elect Two New AFSCME IVPs

Pennsylvania is proud to have two outstanding AFSCME Council 13 leaders serving as International Vice Presidents of our union!

Congratulations to Brian Brocato, President of AFSCME Local 297, and Annie Radakovits, President of AFSCME Local 1979, on being elected to these important leadership positions at the 47th International Convention.

Brian and Annie come from different workplaces and represent different groups of public service workers, but they share something powerful: a lifelong commitment to stepping up, building stronger unions and making sure working people have a voice.

For more than 30 years, Brian has been a dedicated AFSCME member and leader in Pittsburgh Public Schools. From steward to trustee, treasurer and now president of Local 297, he has consistently answered the call to serve his coworkers. Under his leadership, Local 297 has maintained 100% membership since 2022 — a testament to the relationships, trust and organizing power he has helped build among the workers who keep Pittsburgh’s schools safe, clean and welcoming. Brian has also built AFSCME member power at the statewide level through his role on the Council 13 Advisory Board.

Annie has spent more than two decades building a remarkable record of service and leadership. From serving as a shop steward and local officer to her work on the Council 13 Advisory Board, on various union committees and in the broader labor movement, she has dedicated herself to strengthening AFSCME at every level. A graduate of AFSCME International’s Women’s Leadership Academy and a certified LUTI trainer, Annie has also helped develop the next generation of union leaders who will carry our movement forward.

Council 13’s newest IVPs know the Pennsylvania labor movement is stronger when more workers have a voice with AFSCME, which is why they have stood, and will continue to stand, shoulder to shoulder with workers fighting to unionize in places like UPenn and Penn State.

Together, Brian and Annie bring decades of experience, a deep understanding of what it means to represent working people and an unwavering commitment to building union power.

As International Vice Presidents, they will bring the voices and experiences of Pennsylvania’s AFSCME members to the national stage while helping advance the agenda that matters to working people everywhere: stronger contracts, safer workplaces, dignity and respect on the job, and a stronger voice for all AFSCME members.

Their elections are a proud moment for Council 13 and for AFSCME members across Pennsylvania. We know Brian and Annie will continue to lead with the same dedication, solidarity and commitment that have defined their service for so many years.
