Pittsburgh parking pros find a sweet spot with new contract

Pittsburgh Parking Authority workers of AFSCME Local 2719 overwhelmingly ratified their new collective bargaining agreement with 93% voting in favor!
Effective January 1, 2026, these workers will enjoy significant wage increases that rectify a historical injustice of low wages and strict rules around holiday pay.
“With this wage increase, workers will not only be able to make ends meet but will finally receive the wage that they deserve. This is a result of us standing in solidarity to demand what was rightfully ours," said Local 2719 bargaining team member Dana Murphy.
Local 2719 members worked diligently to organize their coworkers and build a true sense of solidarity in the workplace with 99% of represented employees signed up as union members.
“Our members chose dignity over desperation. We are not only AFSCME strong, but we are Pittsburgh strong,” concluded Murphy.
Earlier this year, outside of the negotiations process and led by Local 2719 leadership, a residency requirement that all employees live in the City Of Pittsburgh was eliminated. This allowed for greater talent attraction and retention, but also resolved a long-standing injustice of low wages and high cost-of-living limiting these workers' ability to advance. Members led by signing a petition and testifying before the Authority’s board.
