Requesting Support for Local 763 Sister
One of our union sisters recently experienced a devastating tragedy in which a house fire destroyed her home and took the lives of her fiancé and two young daughters. We are calling on Council 13 members across the state to support her during this unimaginably difficult time. A fundraiser can be found here. Please see below for a message with more information from the President of AFSCME Local 763.
Dear Sisters and Brothers,
I am writing on behalf of AFSCME Local 763 to share very difficult news.
One of our members, Brittany Marsh, recently experienced a devastating house fire that destroyed her home and took the lives of her fiancé and her two young daughters. In one terrible moment, she lost her family, her home, and nearly everything she owned.
She is now grieving while also trying to care for her surviving son and figure out how to rebuild her life from the ground up.
This is the kind of situation that reminds us of what it means to be part of a union. We are not just separate locals across the state. We are a union family.
Local 763 is organizing support to help Brittany and her son regain some stability. The needs right now are immediate, but they will also be ongoing. Replacing basic necessities, securing housing, and creating some sense of normal life for her son will take time and sustained support.
We are respectfully asking our Council 13 siblings to consider a making a donation, if your policies allow. Any contribution your local is able to make will go directly toward helping her and her son begin the long process of rebuilding.
If you are able to assist, please reach out to me directly and I will coordinate the details.
Thank you for standing with one of our own during an unimaginably difficult time.
In solidarity,
Bobbie Jo Zapor
President, AFSCME Local 763
