Support 911 Dispatcher Reclassification! AFSCME Council 13 represents thousands of dedicated public safety professionals, including 911 dispatchers, across Pennsylvania. 911 dispatchers should be recognized as public safety professionals. Right now, federal law classifies 911 personnel as "clerical" workers. We know this isn't an accurate reflection of our jobs and the work we do to help people in emergencies. That's why we're thrilled the U.S. Senate unanimously passed the Enhancing First Response Act (S. 725). This bill would reclassify 911 dispatchers as a public safety occupation under federal law, giving these professionals the recognition and respect that's long overdue. This legislation has strong bipartisan support, and we urge the House to pass this bill promptly so the president can sign it into law!
